“A Wholesome Tongue!”

Proverbs 15:4  A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

The word “wholesome”, means having good morals and showing discernment or good judgment in conduct and especially in speech”

When I was a kid, there was a boy that lived next door whose name was Drake Moncur. His mother was a really good Morman, and his dad was what folks called a “Jack Morman”. That means he was a Morman pretty much in name only. He never went to church and he never followed much of the stuff the Morman religion said they had to do. One of the Morman do’s and don’t was that they were not to drink soda. Mr. Moncur had his own soda machine in his garage. On many a hot day, I was glad Mr. Moncur was a “Jack Morman”.

One day when I was over at Drake’s house, we were playing catch with a hard baseball in his backyard. Drake didn’t catch the ball when I threw it at him, and it hit him on the top of his head. When it did, he let out a really loud curse word. His mother was in the house, and even though I had heard Drake’s dad say that same word, she didn’t like it and she came out after Drake.

When he saw her, he started running, because in her hand she had a bottle of dish soap. She finally caught him and jammed that bottle in his mouth and squeezed a bunch of that soap up in his mouth. She had a hold of his ear with the other hand and he was squealing and choking like a stuck pig. I can still hear her yelling at him, “If you can’t keep your mouth clean, then I will clean it for you.” I can still see the bubbles coming up out of his mouth.

Well, what Mrs. Moncur didn’t know was that you can’t make a person wholesome with dish soap. Only the blood of Jesus can wash us clean from our sin. However, she had the right idea, in trying to teach her son the importance of having a wholesome tongue.

Christian, you ought to have a clean mouth, and I am not talking about brushing your teeth, though you should do that too. I am talking about keeping the words that come out of your mouth, clean and right. There should be no curse words coming out of your mouth. There should be no filthy humor.

A Christian should have a mouth and a tongue that is clean and right and lifts up the Lord Jesus. Let the words that come out of your mouth always please the Lord. If you have been struggling in this area, I wish a mouthful of Dawn Dish soap could help you, but it won’t. You need to fall on your knees and ask the Lord to forgive you, and give you the strength to do right from this day forward.

Always remember, you are the only Bible someone might ever read, or hear! So ask God to give you the strength to have “A Wholesome Tongue!”

Favour of the Lord!

Proverbs 14:9  Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Fools most certainly make a mock at sin, and we could illustrate that a thousand different ways. However, I want us to look today at the 2nd part of this verse. “….among the righteous there is favour.”

I would encourage you to do a study sometime in the Word of God on the subject of the favour of the Lord. It is a wonderful thing to have the favour of the Lord on your life. You see, the Bible says “Without me, ye can do nothing!”

This verse today gives us two opposite sides of the coin. On one side is the fool, who laughs at sin and thinks it doesn’t matter that he participates in it to his hearts delight. He forgot to read, Ecclesiastes 11:9  “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

God basically says, go ahead, have a good time, but remember I am going to judge you for all that you do! Then, on the other side of the coin is that righteous man. The Book of Proverbs lets us know that a righteous man hates sin. This righteous man, this exact opposite of the fool, obtains the favour of the Lord.

There is nothing in this life, outside of salvation itself, as wonderful as the “favour” of the Lord. This is God shining down His blessing on someones life and blessing them in truly supernatural ways. Most Christians never see this favour, because they don’t hate sin like they should. As a result, they never see the favour of the Lord like they could.

My friend, if I was you, I would stay as far away from the mindset of a fool as I could. Don’t justify sin, learn to literally hate it. In doing so, as you walk with the Lord, you will see his blessing shine down on you. Don’t miss out on the Favour of the Lord!

Have a wonderful day today, and don’t miss any of your Divine Appointments!
